Wellington, Florida – Allan Donnan of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, couldn’t say no when he found out that JustWorld International was looking for someone to sponsor the salary of a school teacher at its project site in Cambodia.“I don’t think I could have walked away from the opportunity,” said the financial planner, who moonlights as a highly entertaining and engaging horse show announcer. “I was looking through the projects available, and it just jumped off the page for me. To be able to provide a teacher for that amount of money – it was a no- brainer.”He continued, “Education is the first step to getting people out of the situation they are in. It provides them with hope, and it provides them with opportunities. What better place to start than that? When these kids are educated, they have a much greater chance of creating better lives for themselves and for their families.”Donnan ‘adopted’ the school teacher’s salary as part of JustWorld International’s newest initiative, the ‘Adopt a Project’ campaign, which identifies opportunities to support a number of highly successful nutrition, health and hygiene, education, and leadership and cultural development programs.“I first met the JustWorld staff four years ago at a horse show,” said Donnan, who is now one of JustWorld International’s Technical Official Ambassadors. “They were hosting a Horseless Horse Show and I ended up announcing for them. From there, I said I would love to be involved, and if there was anything I could do, to let me know.”Since then, Donnan has become an integral part of the JustWorld family, lending his voice and his humor to numerous fundraising events, including the Annual Fundraising Gala and the widely popular Fashion Show, both held during the winter season in Wellington, FL.“They phone and I say ‘yes’,” he joked. “I generally don’t even ask what the event is. All I need to know is when and where and I’ll show up and announce!”
“We’ve been friends with the Newman family for over 25 years,” noted Joan Kalman. “We were brought in at the very beginning when Jessica was just starting to think about the idea behind JustWorld. We would meet for lunch and she would talk to us about what she wanted to do with the organization. She knew she wanted to work in areas where the children were very underprivileged.”Her husband, Ernest Kalman, added, “It’s been unbelievable to watch the organization grow and see how much has been accomplished in such a short time. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and we are delighted to be a part of it.”The Kalmans partially adopted the Angelworks School Supplies Program on the recommendation of JustWorld’s founder, and family friend, Jessica Newman, who thought that the project would be a good fit. Joan and Ernest Kalman are now encouraging their friends and barn mates to help raise the funds to sponsor the rest of the program’s financial needs.“We have show jumping horses that compete in Florida,” said Joan Kalman. “Laura Kraut rides our horses and she’s a Rider Ambassador for JustWorld, and so are some of her students. We will be heading down to Florida shortly and are going to start asking the people we know down there to get involved with sponsoring this project.”To learn more about the ‘Adopt a Project’ campaign or to donate, please click on the following link, https://www.justworldinternational.org/adopt-a-project/.
