The event, which began July 1, will run until November 1. Over the four-month span, teams will work toward the goal of raising $40,000 each. Throughout their journey, teams will also receive recognition for specific checkpoints they complete along the way.   Each team represents a country in which JustWorld works (Cambodia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Colombia) and select Ambassadors will lead fellow junior, amateur and professional Ambassadors in addition to new recruits along the way. Over the course of the event, they will raise awareness via social media and organize fundraisers at horse shows and within their local communities in order to support JustWorld's innovative social development projects.   "Ever since I traveled to visit Los Patojos in Guatemala, Just World and its mission have been close to my heart," said Sarah Abdi, mentor for Team Guatemala and a former Co-Captain. "I think the team challenge really brings all the ambassadors together and motivates us to raise as much as possible for such an amazing cause. Seeing first-hand how the funds we raise help children in need makes everything worth it."   TEAM HONDURAS Team Honduras aims to raise awareness for the second poorest country in Central America. Honduras suffers from extraordinarily unequal distribution of income and high unemployment. Since 2009, Honduras has become the country with the highest rate of intentional homicides in the world. JustWorld has worked throughout Honduras to address the education, health and nutrition of children in impoverished communities. JustWorld currently works with local Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) Asociación Compartir to bring education and social development to children through the mobile library, which reaches nearly 3,000 children in slums around Tegucigalpa.   TEAM GUATEMALA Guatemala is an impoverished Latin American country, where three quarters of the country live below the poverty line. For Guatemalan children, this means many of them do not have access to health care, proper nutrition or education. JustWorld partners with NGO Los Patojos to establish a safe learning environment for more than 275 children in the dangerous community of Jocotenango. Team Guatemala will work to raise funds to continue providing scholarships to attend school, educational reinforcement lessons, and access to a healthy community kitchen and free medical clinic.   TEAM CAMBODIA Team Cambodia is working conscientiously to bring attention to the South East Asian country. Cambodia is still recovering from the national trauma of Pol Pot's brutal regime and genocide roughly 35 years ago. The country now struggles with a lack of free education and extreme poverty, particularly in rural areas where 92 percent of the impoverished population lives. JustWorld partnered with the People Improvement Organization in Phnom Penh to address this problem and has built two schools and currently funds the education of 800 children.   TEAM COLOMBIA Team Colombia is devoted to the attention of struggling areas in Colombia. Being one of their newer projects, JustWorld has been working hard to help provide education and academic assistance to 60 students and adolescents who live in high social risk situations.   Contact any of the Captains listed below for more information on how you can support their team!   Team Honduras: Morgan Dickerson: mdickerson123@yahoo.com Madison Bradshaw: mmbradshaw12@gmail.com   Team Guatemala: Kira Kerkorian: kkerkorian@gmail.com Sophie Simpson: lophaa1297@gmail.com   Team Cambodia: Laura Mathy: laura.mathy@uwcmaastricht.nl Damien de Chambord: damiendechambord@gmail.com   Team Colombia: Ali Epstein: ali92196@aol.com Joe DeSantis: joed1013@gmail.com   Founded in 2003 by Jessica Newman, JustWorld International is a not-for-profit, humanitarian organization which funds life-changing nutrition, health and hygiene, education, and leadership and cultural development programs for impoverished children in Cambodia, Honduras, Guatemala, and Brazil.
