Compartir Invited to Play for President

Asociación Compartir’s ensemble was invited to play for the President of Honduras! Thanks to Aeden O’Connor, who spent time with the mobile library to make a documentary on the program, President Juan Orlando Hernandez saw the video posted on YouTube . He saw one student in particular, Blanca, playing the drums and decided that he wanted to see the group in person. The band is just one of the programs offered to students in the towns of Nueva Suyapa, Villa Nueva, and Los Pinos through JustWorld’s partnership with Asociación Compartir. Compartir also offers percussion, guitar, flute, theatre, and dance workshops. The President now wants the artistic groups to do presentations in the parks that the government has installed throughout Tegucigalpa, the capital city, which will serve as an example for many young people and greatly increase the visibility of Compartir’s programs. Andrea Hernandez, the Vice Minister of Security, will help organize the artistic groups’ presentations and they’ve already received the calendar of events to schedule their performances.Although the students were a little nervous to perform the first time, they were really excited to meet and talk to the President. The work we do in these communities is so important- this opportunity to showcase their work in front of the country’s leader, as well as on a national platform, will inspire them to keep improving their skills and also know that what they are doing is good.
